About Marie Anne Jospehine FALLOUX

Anne Marie Josephe Smith (Fallaux) has mistakenly been called a Comtesse. Actually she was the illegitimate daughter of Deiudonne Fallaux and her father is unknown (he may have been a count, but if so no title was ever bestowed on her). But her aunt was married to Jean-Baptiste Bessiers an officer in Napoleon's army, on whom he bestowed a title. Anne Marie was living in Hargnies at the time she met John Joseph Smith (aka Samuels). He was a prisoner of war nearby and when the war ended, they were married. Their three children John Joseph Smith jnr, Alfred Diseree Smith and Eliza Alesandrina Smith were born in France, before the family returned to England, and from there became 1820 Settlers.
