About Marie Therese Assaieux
Glenn Conrad, in Saint Jean Baptiste des Allemands, Abstracts of the Civil Records of St. John the Baptist Parish, has Marie Therese ASSAYER married to both Joseph ST. CYR dit ROUILLARD and to Pierre CUVILLIER. But the sacramental records show 2 marriages, of Marie Layeux MAYEUX to Pierre DUCODER; and of Marie Therese Layeux MAYEUX to Joseph RUILLARD, held on the same day, April 26, 1752. The confusion stems from the names of these two sisters who were married on the same day. Pierre DUCODER must be Pierre CUVILLIER.
Joseph ST. CYR and Marie Therese ASSAYER were living in St. John the Baptist Parish when Joseph died. After his death, Marie Therese and her new husband Jean Baptiste CUROT moved to St. James, on the left bank of the Acadian Coast. From the 1777 census, Marie Therese was born about 1737, but other sources list her birth as July 16, 1728, with her sister Marie being born in 1737. See Gulf Coast Colonials, p. 18.
