Marie was an immigrant, arriving by 1654

Marie Chefdeville was born on June 05, 1631, at Chevausse, Villiers, Sou St. Leu, Poitou, France; the daughter of Jean Chefdeville and Marguerite Jesiovum. She arrived in the Quebec Colony as a Filles A Marier, contracted to be the bride of Andre Demers. They were married January 23, 1653 in Montreal.

Andre was born on February 03, 1628 in St Jacques, Dieppe, Rouen, Normandy, France; the son of Jean Demers and Barbe Mauger. He and Marie would have twelve children. She died on November 23, 1708 in Montreal and Andre followed on November 23, 1710 at Point-Aux-Trembles.

Filles a Marier - [Marriageable Female]: Courageous Pioneers Between 1634 & 1662 a total of 262 Filles a Marier or marriageable girls: were recruited to emigrated to New France. Although there were some members of the petty nobility among their ranks, some were from urban families, daughters of craftsmen, day laborers and servants, while an even smaller number were daughters of businessmen, civil servants, military men and others were the poor daughters of peasants and farmers. Their average age was 22. In New France, these women could choose whom they wanted to marry and had the freedom to change their minds before the marriage took place. While waiting to find a husband, many of the ladies lodged with religious communities either the Ursulines in Quebec City or the Filles de la Congregation Notre-Dame in Montreal, although about 100 Filles a Marier, lodged with individuals. Within a year of their arrival most found themselves married.
