Marie-Martine Crosnier was a Fille du Roi (the Kings Daughters). "The filles du roi were a group of some 700 unmarried women who were sent to New France between 1663 and 1673 by King Louis XIV to solve a gender imbalance problem, and ultimately help to populate the new colony. They were called “daughters of the king” because Louis XIV paid for their recruitment, clothing and passage to the new world and offered dowries to the women when they married. They were specifically looking for women who were young, average- or good-looking, single, smart, strong, in good health, and having good morals. Each fille du roi also had to produce a “certificate of good conduct” signed by their priest or a judge from their hometown." (from the French-Canadian Genealogist).

Martine Crosnier was born about 1645 in Fontaine-le-Bourg (arrondissement and archdiocese of Rouen), Normandy, the daughter of Pierre Crosnier and Jeanne Rotrau. After her mother's death, Martine left for Canada in 1669 at about age 24, bringing with her goods worth an estimated 200 livres for her dowry. Philippe and Marie's marriage contract was signed in the house of the "dame veuve Jean Bourdon" (widow lady Jean Bourdon). On 18 November 1669, Martine married Philippe Destroismaisons dit Picard at Château-Richer and was given the King's Gift of 50 livres. Neither spouse could sign the marriage contract drawn up 02 November by notary Becquet. Philippe, a cobbler or shoemaker, was born about 1637 in the parish of Notre-Dame in Montreuil-sur-Mer (diocese of Amiens), Picardy, the son of master musket smith Adrien Destroismaisons and Antoinette Leroux. The surname comes from Philippe's grandfather Antoine (married to Jeanne Larcherer), who was from the hamlet of Trois-Maisons (le hameau des Trois-Maisons) in Bazinghen (diocese of Boulogne), Picardy.
