Memories by daughter, Libbie, states they met in MA & were married there in 1844.
Another life of honor and usefulness has passed. She who was born Mary Besset, July 16, 1829, I Canada, died Sunday evening, May 27 in Plymouth. She was married to Mr. Prevey, Feb. 12, 1843, in New York state. They removed in 1854 to Fall River, Wis., and in 1857 to the vicinity of Elroy where they have since made their home. To them were born twelve children, the eldest of whom, Fran, died in the service of his county in the Civil War, his name afterward being adopted by the local Grand Army Post. Ten of the children are living; Mrs. Elizabeth Farrington, of Ortonville, Minn., George Prevey of Milbank, S. Dak., Mrs. Jane Peck of Kendall, Charles Prevey, of Beardsley, Minn., Mrs. Lulu Potter of Watertown, Ia., Mrs. Rose Mutch, of New Haven, Conn., Miss Nettie, Comadore and Warren, of this city, and Mrs. Minnie Dunn, of Neenah, Wis. To have raised such a family under the limitations of a frontier farmer’s home and to have helped them to such vigor of body, mind and character as they received is a life’s service greater and more honorable than we can easily appreciate. Her family and many friends unite in a mingled sorrow and gratitude that honors her memory. She had been for some months suffering and manifestly failing from what was considered a tumor in her side beyond the surgeon’s reach. The end was anticipated and the absent sons, George and Comadore, reached home in time for the coveted recognition and converse. Mrs. Farrington and Mrs. Dunn had been home several weeks assisting in their mother’s care. The funeral occurred Tuesday afternoon at the Congregational Church and the burial was in the Fowler’s Prairie cemetery. “Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth. Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labors; for their works as follow them.” (The Elroy Lead, 31 May 1900)

BEYOND THE GRAVE. __________ Mrs. F. Prevey, One of Elroy’s Oldest Residents is Gone
Sunday evening of this week at six o’clock saw the close of an earnest and good life which left Francis Prevey to mourn his helpmate and loving wife and their children to mourn an affectionate and kind hearted mother. She had been suffering for some time from a cancer in the stomach and her death was not unexpected. She died as easy as a child dropping to sleep.
Mary Bessett was born July 16, 1829, near Montreal. She was married to Mr. Prevey Feb. 12, 1843, in New York state. They removed in 1854 to Fall River, Wis., and in 1857 to the vicinity of Elroy and in 1867 they moved to the farm where they have since made their home.
To them were born twelve children, the eldest of whom, Frank, died in the service of his country at the battle of Pittsburg Landing in the Civil war, his name being afterward adopted by the local Grand Army post. Ten of the children are living: Mrs. Elizabeth Farrington of Ortonville, Minn., Mrs. Jane Peck of Kendall, Charles Prevey of Beardsley, Minn., George Prevey of Milbank, South Dakota, Mrs. Lulu Potter of Watertown, Iowa, Mrs. Rose Mutch of New Haven, Conn., Miss Nettie Prevey of Elroy, Commodore and Warren of Elroy, and Mrs. Minnie Dunn of Neenah, Wis. To have reared such a family, under the limitations of a frontier farmer’s home and to have helped them to such vigor of body, mind and character as they received is a life service greater and more honorable than we can easily appreciate. Her family and many friends unite in a mingled sorrow and gratitude that honors her memory.
The absent sons, George and Commodore, reached home in time for the coveted recognition. Mrs. Farrington and Mrs. Dunn had been home some weeks assisting in their mother’s care.
The funeral occurred Tuesday afternoon at the Congregational church and the burial was in the Fowler’s Prairie cemetery. The very large number of citizens attending the funeral testified to the high esteem in which she was held by the people of this community.
