MARIE-THERESE VIEL was a Fille du Roi. She married ETIENNE BOYER on October 26, 1671 about a month after arriving. MARIE-THERESE gained a bit of notoriety due to the fact that after making a return voyage to France a few years after her marriage, she returned to Quebec pregnant by another man. She accused Medard Chouart, a fairly important muckety-muck, of being the father. He admitted to having relations with her but denied he was the father. He said she'd been seen with several men in LaRochelle, France. The courts apparently disagreed with this assessment because he was ordered to pay 200 pounds in damages which was a VERY significant amount in those days. MARIE-THERESE returned to her husband, and ETIENNE adopted the baby as his own.
