Marie Thelen

Marie Thelen, 47, lifelong resident of Breda, Iowa, died Wednesday morning, April 15, 1959 at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa where she had undergone surgery for a brain tumor. She was born Friday, June 23, 1911 to Nicholas "Nick" and Katherine (nee Julich) Thelen in Breda.

She had worked on the lunch program at Saint Bernard's School since its inception and was a charter member of the Women's Catholic Order of Foresters at Breda.

She was survived by the following siblings, John Julius (Appolonia Susan "Pauline") Thelen of Granville, Iowa; Julia Anne (Edward Herman) Neppl of Estherville, Iowa; Martha M. (Leo F. "Pete") Heinrichs and Mathias "Matt" "Math" (Philomena) Thelen of Breda, Iowa; Apollonia Johanna (Engelbert Francis) Neppl of Chatfield, Minnesota; Paul Hubert (Alma) Thelen of Eagle Bend, Minnesota; Fred H. (Mathilda M.) Thelen of Breda, Iowa; Hilaria Margaret (Aloysius Conrad) Bernholtz of Carroll, Iowa; Helen H. (Roy) Kelly of Odebolt, Iowa; Engelbert Carl "Bert" (Evelyn Marian) Thelen of Estherville, Iowa and Leona Thelen (Don) McCaffrey.

Funeral services were held Saturday, April 18, 1959 at 10:30 a.m. at Saint Bernard Church, 206 2nd Avenue, Breda. Requiem High Mass was offered by the Reverend J. P. Hausman with burial in the Saint Bernard Cemetery. Reverend Edgar L. Schleyer was in the sanctuary.

Pallbearers were A. H. Ricke, Lawrence Bruning, Marcus Rettenmaier, Clarence Goecke, Steve Venner, and Herman Heinrichs. Members of the Women's Catholic Order of Foresters of Breda formed an honor guard at the church rites.* Reference: Find A Grave Memorial - SmartCopy: Feb 8 2019, 0:41:43 UTC
