FULL NAME: Marie Colon Rondeau/Rondot Sarrazin ToussaintMarie Colon was born c1708 in Dauphine (Isere Department), France. She was the daughter of Pierre Colon and Anne Guelien. Her parents are identified on her 26 June 1747 marriage record to Antoine Sarrazin. She was married three times: (1) Jean Rondeau/Rondot married before 13 May 1722; (2) Antoine Sarrazin; (3) Jean Toussaint married on 20 May 1722. She only had children with Jean Rondeau/Rondot. According to a 25 January 1747 tutorship record found in the succession records of Marie Colon (after the death of Jean Rondeau), she had five children by that date. They were: Cecille 22, Marie Anne 17, Adrienne 14, Louise 12 and Anne 10.Her will was written at Pointe Coupée Poste on 28 December 1777. She was buried on 19 January 1778. This grave was likely located in the cemetery of the 1760 St. Francis Church. The cemetery was blessed in 1764. Almost all of the graves from this church were lost to the Mississippi River. A few were moved to St. Mary's Church in New Roads but none of those were for individuals who died prior to 1818.* Reference: Find A Grave Memorial - SmartCopy: Sep 11 2018, 0:33:54 UTC

4094. Jean RONDOT (RONDEAU) was born about 1695 in Dijon (Cote d'Or) (Bourgogne Region), France.1257 He died about 20 January 1747 while he was "among Houmas while descending from Pointe Coupee". He was buried on 20 January 1747 at St. Charles Borromeo Cemetery in Destrehan (St. Charles Parish), Louisiana, USA.1668 Marie COLON and Jean RONDOT (RONDEAU) were married before 13 May 1722. They appeared in the census on 13 May 1722 at an Indian Village called Thominea along the Mississippi River in Louisiana, USA. They appeared in the census in 1726 at the Village de Tonicas with one child. Marie and Jean appeared in the census in 1745 in (Pointe Coupée Parish), Louisiana, USA. By this time, he already owned 23 slaves (including 2 Indian slaves) and cultivated 60 arpents.

4095. Marie COLON was born about 1708 in Dauphine (Isere) (Rhône-Alpes Region), France.1257 She sold four arpents of land to Guillaume Guerin dit St. Aubin in (Pointe Coupée Parish), Louisiana, USA on 1 March 1764.1360 She ("Widow Sarazin") sold two arpents of land to Jean Marie Lefeue in (Pointe Coupée Parish), Louisiana, USA on 26 January 1767.1544 Marie sold one and one-half arpents of land to Jean Baptiste, a free mulato, in (Pointe Coupée Parish), Louisiana, USA on 8 May 1769.1669 She was buried on 19 January 1778 in (Pointe Coupée Parish), Louisiana, USA.1670 She had her estate in succession on 24 November 1778 in (Pointe Coupée Parish), Louisiana, USA. On that date, her will was presented. In the will, she spoke of debts she owed and debts owed to her. After making special bequests, all of her heirs shared equally in the inheritance and she asked to be remembered in the prayers of the heirs. However, five days later, another will was presented to Commandant Grand-Pré by Jean Pierre LeDoux. There was one will included in the succession documents. Although the date on it is hard to read, the will was dated 28 (the 8 is hard to read - could be another number) December 1777. According to a notation by Laverne Thomas in "Pointe Coupée Families in Colonial Louisiana ..." (Page 45, Number 952), there is no explanation as to why this earlier will was not brought forth earlier and, interestingly, two of the witnesses to this earlier will were heirs of Marie Colon. (Note: A document dated 29 November 1778 which mentions the presentation of the 20 December 1777 will indicates that Marie Colon died on 5 January 1778 and, at the time of her death, she was the widow of Jean Toussaint. This death date does not match the burial date recorded at Pointe Coupée.1671 The division of her estate took place on 22 July 1782.

[Note: Marie's 2nd marriage was to Antoine Sarrazin on 26 June 1747 in Pointe Coupée according to the transcription in "Diocese of Baton Rouge, Catholic Church Records, Volume I, 1707-1769". However, upon examination of a copy of this marriage record, I believe that they were married on the 20th and not the 26th. . The couple had signed a marriage contract there on 6 June 1747. Her 3rd marriage was to Jean Toussaint on 30 May 1772. The couple had signed a marriage contract on 26 May 1772.]
