About Marjorie Harrison-Burr
Born August 25, 1922, Bloomington, Neb. the youngest child of Henry Bryant and Bess (Dunn) Holmes.
She moved with her family to Leoti, Kansas when young, where her father established the Leoti Standard Newspaper.
She attended school in Leoti, and on graduating high school, would attend the University of Neb. in Lincoln, Neb. She met and married Professor James Harrison while attending college there. They would have three children: Mike, Judith and David.The marriage would end in divorce.
Marjorie went on to be a college professor of ( Not sure if she taught English or American) Literature. She and her children would go to Cairo, Egypt where she taught at the University of Cairo for 5 years. She also would teach at South Dakota State University at Brookings , South Dakota and at Syracuse, New York
On a visit home to see family, she became re- acquainted with her sister's ex- husband, Buck Burr, would strike up a relationship( with my mother's permission), and were married. They re- modeled her mother's old two story house in Leoti, making it quite a showpiece. He would die a year after the marriage.
She contracted breast cancer in approx. 1977-78. The cancer would return in her lung, and she under went a second round of chemo. and the removal of part of her lung. This writer was with her when the Dr. told her the cancer had returned for the third time , again in the lungs. She chose not to do Chemo again. She would go to her son, Mike and daughter Judy's homes for her last days and died March 28th, 1983 at Braddock Heights, Maryland. She is buried at Beulah Cemetery in the north part of Wichita, Co., Kansas, beside her husband, Buck.
