About Marjorie Christina MacMullin
With heartfelt sadness for our loss, but profound gratitude for the many years we were blessed to have her, we announce the peaceful passing of Marjorie Christina MacMullin on October 27, 2019. Our beloved mother, at age 101, was the matriarch of a family that spanned 5 generations, including 5 children, 12 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandson. She and our father, Michael MacMullin, had fifty wonderful years together. They were loving parents to us all: Sarah Ann Fahey, Margaret Ann Cann, Michael & Leo MacMullin, and our dearly departed sister, Elizabeth MacNeil. Mom is also survived by devoted daughters-in-law Diane (Mickey) and Rosemary (Leo), several generations of grandchildren, nieces and nephews, all of whom she cherished.
Born July 29, 1918, Mom was the youngest daughter of Nicholas and Ethel May (Taylor) Howell, who had moved from Newfoundland in 1911 to Sydney Mines and began a family. Mom was predeceased by both parents and a stepfather, William Hennessey, a sister Christina and brothers Tom and Freddy Howell. Mom was also predeceased by her husband Michael, parents-in-law John and Flora Ann (Gillis) MacMullin, in-laws, Margaret and Sean Howell, Rory & Katie-Ellen MacMullin and Sarah Ann & John MacLean, grandsons Ian MacMullin and Christopher Cann and great grandchildren Madison and Morgan Englert, sons-in-law Donald MacNeil, Billy Cann and Len Fahey.
Our dear sweet Mom and Nana will be remembered for her devotion to family, delicious home cooking and baking, as well as her talent for making beautiful handmade crafts; particularly for her crocheting, which was always done without following a pattern. There was love in every stitch. For the past 15 years our mother resided at the Cove Guest Home in Sydney. It was there that she shared lots of happy times with her special friend, the late Donna (Marman) Isnor. We wish to sincerely thank the staff, nurses and doctors at the Cove, who have become an important part of Mom’s extended family over the years. We also appreciate the staff, doctors, nurses and Palliative Care Unit at the Regional Hospital in Sydney for your wonderful care of our mother.
Visitation will take place on Monday, November 4, 2019 from 2-4 p.m. at J.M. Jobes Funeral Home, Sydney Mines. A Celebration of Life will immediately follow visitation, with Fr. Jim Oliver officiating. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Hospice Palliative Care Society of Cape Breton.
