!Personal information. Marjorie was my mother.

Marjorie was born in Iowa on the 20th of May 1901. She was the only child of Marshall D. Nisbet, D.D.S.( Dr. of Dentistry) and Cora Victoria Hilton. Both Cora Victoria Hilton and her sister Anne were school teachers, and rented rooms at the same boarding house in Souix City, Iowa as was Marshall D. Nisbet, when they were married.

Marjorie attended the University of Southern Calivornia ( USC) which was only 2 blocks from her home in Los Angeles, studying pre-med. She was studying to be a doctor but decided to get married instead, and never completed her studies. She married Loren Levi Miles, had 2 children Marshall and Elizabeth, and shortly after the birth of Elizabeth she and Loren were divorced. Marjorie had to go to work to support her children, she worked at the Collegette Girls School in Pasadena as a pastry cook for several years, eventually marrying Mr. Frank H. Peters, then moving to Beaumont California were they had a farm. They had a daughter, Ruth Anna Peters born in 1935. Mr Peters could not make a living on this farm as it was a 'dry land' type of farm, meaning that it was not irrigated with water, and was dependant on winter rains to raise wheat and other grains. There was a severe drought during that time, and the farm failed because of the drought. Mr. Peters was always interested in mining, and the whole family moved to Columbia California in the gold county. At one time Mr. Peters had 7 gold mines, none of them were very profitable, all the mining had to be done by drilling by hand and blasting with dynamite, and the quartz rock was very difficult to drill by hand and progress in drilling was very slow. Eventually Mr. Peters went to work for the Tuolumne Lumber Mill, and Marjorie worked taking care of a blind lady (Mrs. Schmidt) for several years. When the war was declared in 1941 - WW 2, we moved to Arlington California, near Riverside California, and Mr Peters went to work at the military camp - Camp Anza - in Arlington. This camp was an embarking camp for the Army. They also owned and ran the Hotel in Arlington. After the war, they moved back to the mountains, this time moving to Sonora California ( 4 miles south of Columbia) living there until the death of Mr. Peters, Marjorie then moved to Stockton California and later moving with her daughter Ruth to Anderson, California where she later died following hip surgery necessitated by a fall that broke her hip. Marjorie was then buried in the old Columbia Cemetery next to her husband Frank Peters.
