Marjorie Ellen Yospin Newman M.D., passed away peacefully on October 17, 2006 after a long battle with breast cancer.
She was born in Brooklyn, NY on July 8, 1945 and grew up there and in Roslyn, NY. During her senior year at Roslyn High School, she was chosen to be a foreign exchange student for the American Field Service, and spent nine months living in Argentina, where she attended school and learned to speak fluent Spanish.
She attended Smith and Barnard Colleges, and received a Bachelor's Degree from Barnard. She studied medicine at the Women's Medical College in Philadelphia, and went on to a residency in psychiatry at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York.
She taught psychiatry at the University of Texas in San Antonio and at UCLA Harbor, and then established a private psychiatry practice in Pasadena.
She served as President of the Los Angeles Academy of Medicine and was honored as a Distinguished Fellow by the American Psychiatric Association.
Marjorie is survived by her sons, Eric and David Newman, her parents, Audrey Yospin and Dr. Tobias Yospin, and her brother, Richard.
