Air Marshal Sir John Maitland Salmond was born on 17 July 1881. He was the son of Maj.-Gen. Sir William Salmond and Emma Mary Hoyle.1 He married, firstly, Helen Amy Joy Lumsden in 1913. He married, secondly, Hon. Monica Margaret Grenfell, daughter of William Henry Grenfell, 1st and last Baron Desborough and Ethel Anne Priscilla Fane, on 2 June 1924.
Air Marshal Sir John Maitland Salmond gained the rank of Air Marshal in the service of the Royal Air Force.
