Marshall Wien, businessman, former U. H. official, dies, 71

Marshall Joseph Wien, safety director of University Heights from 1965 to 1984, died on June 15 at the age of 71. In 1984 he was the first recipient of the city's Public Servant of the Year Award. After graduating from Cleveland Heights High Wien School, Mr. Wien became a carpet salesman. He later founded Marshall Carpet Co. located in Richmond Mall. During World War II, Mr. Wien served in the Coastal Artillery. He was a member of Jewish War Veterans, Heights Blaugrund Lodge of B'nai B'rith, Richmond Mall Association and was a board member of the Jewish National Fund. He was also a member of the Mayfield Heights Chamber of Commerce, the Cuyahoga County Service Directors Association and the International Association of Police Chiefs. Surviving are his wife of 47 years, Mindell (nee Hirsch); sons, Charles and Marc; daughters, Renee Deutsch of Tampa, Sandra Simon of Bethesda, Md. and Barbara Baskin of Columbus, Ga.; 11 grandchildren; and a brother, Lester Wien. Contributions in his memory may be made to the Marshall J. Wien Memorial Fund c/o University Heights City Hall, Silsby and Warrensville Road, University Heights 44118.
