Census: 24 Jun 1880 in Newport, Attala County, MS Note: (*) Abels family: William (56, about 1824, TN - TN - TN, farmer) and Caroline (48, about 1832, MS - MS - MS, keeps house). No children living at home but a Rick A. Porter (?) (21 years old, laborer) worked with them. (*) Two of their grown children, James and William, had farms near them.

"I have Indian Wars pension application papers dated 17 Jan 1893 for William C. Abel who married Martha Caroline Carter in Attala County, MS. It lists a previous marriage to Irene Dodd who died in 1841 and lists William's seven of William C.'s living children as follows:

2 - James H. Abels b. 14 Dec 1852
3 - Sarah A. Porter b. 28 Jan 1854
4 - William B. Abels b. 9 Dec 1855
