"Born in 1815, the daughter of John Franklin (Isaac's brother), when was a high-spirited young lady sixteen years old when she left home to become the mistress of her husband's considerable establishment in Virginia. Certainly through all her later life she gave evidences of executive ability, an iron will, and a terrible temper which she did not always bother to control. It is said that others marveled at her husband's patience with her tantrums."
