Martha Batte

Martha Mallory.

Martha Mallory, bur. at Birstal, co. York, 9 Feb. 1654/5, m. John Batte, of Okewell, co. York, d. by Sept. 1653, a son of Robert Batte by Elizabeth Parry (see above - brother and sister married sister and brother). John Batte was Justice of Peace in the West Riding of Yorkshire, and a Captain of Foot [soldiers] in the Royalist regiment of Agbrigg and Morley at the battle of Adwalton Moor, 1643. Capt. Batte was in the Virginia Colony for a while, but returned to Okewell. See "Dugdale's Visitation of Yorkshire, with additions", edited by J. W. Clay, appearing in The Genealogist, New Series, vols. 9 to 33, at XV: 89.

Other sources give her name as Katherine or Catherine. (Note: Dugdale is very weak on the Mallory family, never giving a complete line and only mentioning daughters who married into other families.)

She married John BATTE, son of Robert /BATTE/ and Mary (Elizabeth?) /PARRY/. He was born ABT 1605 in Of Oakwell, York, England, and died 1653 in Virginia.
