Funeral services for Mrs. John K. (Martha) Bias, 89, of Wells, will be at 10am Tues in St. Casimir's Catholic Church, Wells, with interment following in the church cemetery. Rev. Harold B. Mountain will officiate. A prayer service will begin at 8pm Monday in the Heitner Funeral Home, Wells. Friends may call at Heitner's beginning Monday.
Mrs. Bias, a lifetime resident of the Wells area, died Friday evening at Naeve Hospital. She had entered the hospital a month earlier for surgery.
Born to Frank and Susanna Staloch Jan. 30, 1882, in Dunbar, she married John Bias at Wells Sept. 12, 1899. She was a member of St. Casimir's Church. Her husband had preceded her in death Jan. 5, 1957.
Survivors include eight daughters, Mrs. Louis (Mary) Willette, Easton, Anna Bias, Rippey, Iowa, Mrs. Clara Petersen, Jefferson, Iowa, Mrs. Louis (Margaret) Ripley, Salem, Ore., Helen Bias, Mapleton, Sister Martin (OSB), Mount St. Benedict, Crookston, Mrs. James(Rita) Northrup, Janesville, Wis., and Mrs. Edward (Dorothy) Cunningham, Twin Lakes; five sons, Frank, Peter and Clement Bias, Wells, Claud Bias, Hartland, and Charles Bias, Minneapolis; 44 grandchildren; 55 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
She is also survived by four sisters, Mrs. Peter (Barbara) Stencel, Albert Lea, Anna Staloch, Wells, Mrs. Thomas (Bernice) Hytry, Wells, and Mrs. Peter (Chrispina) Woitas, Mankato, and one brother, Joseph R. Staloch, Wells.
She was preceded in death by her parents; four sisters, Frances, Julie, Mary and Balbina; one son, Bernard Bias, and one half-sister, Agnes.
