Martha Catherine ‘Kissiah’ Carroll was born August 15, 1812 in Huntsville, Scott County, Tennessee, and died March 21, 1879. She was buried in the Smokey Creek, Scott County, Tennessee, United States. She was the daughter of Drewry Carroll and his wife Nancy. She married Meshack Hembree.

Martha divorced Meshack Hembree on Aug. 1, 1873. The divorce by Martha stated that Meshack had committed adultery with "Rilla" (Ibey) Smith. Martha's maiden name was Carroll, which she was to reassume after the divorce. The court took Meshack's land and conveyed it to Martha as a life interest. As a result of this divorce, Meshack left three minor children when he died with no means of support. their mother had died in 1884. Meshack's son, William Alexander was appointed as their guardian and he applied for a pension to support Meshack's children on Sept. 22, 1890. Martha was 66 years 7 months and 6 days old when she died. She was buried on March 23, 1879, in the Hembree Cemetery, Smokey Creek, Scott County, Tennessee.

- Jemimah / Gemima Hembree was born Jan 14 1845 in Huntsville, Scott, Tennessee and died Feb 12 1905 in Smokey Creek, Scott, Tennessee. Married Phillip "Snuffin" Lowe.
- Elizabeth ‘Betty’ Hembree (twin) was born Jan 14 1845 in Huntsville, Scott, Tennessee and died Nov 19 1926 nr Huntsville, Scott, Tennessee. Married William Lewellen.

- Meshack listed as 28, in Anderson Co., TN. In 1840 Census, with 1 male under 5, William Alexander, 1 female under 5, Sarah, 2 females 5-10 Rebecca and Nancy and wife Martha also 28.
- They are probably in Anderson Co., as well in 1850 or possibly in Scott Co., but have not been found.
- They are in Scott Co., TN. in the 1860 census, as Meshack Embry 48 with land valued at $2000, Martha 49, Rebecca 23, William 22, Sarah 21, Ezekiel 19, and Elizabeth 16. In 1870 Scott Co., Census they are listed as Meshack 57, Farmer, Property valued at $2100. Wife is listed as Kissiah (must be a nick name for Martha) 57, and Alvin Hembree, (grandson, son of Elizabeth).
