Poythress comes from the French word "Poitrau" referring to the harness of a horse. Harness Maker
Have seen notes questioning if she was the daughter of Judge William Poythress
The Dixon family was among the earliest members of Mt Bethany Methodist Episcopal Church just north of Girard and are buried in its cemetery. In the Virtual center of the cemetery, stands Elizabeth Poythress Odom's grave marker, a white marble obelisk, about three feet tall. In the 1950's there was an ornamental iron fence about it and Laban Odom's graves. Her sons were buried at her feet. Harriet and Edward Tabb are buried there in unmarked graves.
In a letter to Faye Council from Martha M Dixon of Charlotte, NC, (12-9-1977) she stated that "Elizabeth Poythress Muir Dixon was an accomplished pianist and married John Dixon, RS, who was a violin master."
