About Martha (Dora Bob) Dora Bradford

This is my maternal grandmother. When I was a boy she was "Ma" to me. Friends called her Dora or Dora Bob. I don't remember her going by Martha. It is noted on her tombstone that reads "Dora". Dora was a Jarrell and married a Bradford. Her husband Bob had a sister named Dora. She was a Bradford and she married a Jarrell (Ed Jarrell.) So, the family to keep getting them confused, called one Dora Bob and the other Dora Ed.

One of my fondest memories of her was how she used to get up in the morning and get dressed and fix her hair. Even if she didn't have anywhere to go, she always wore her pearl beads. She had one of the first TV's I ever saw when I was growing up in the early 60's. She would not turn it on until she was totally dressed and hair fixed. She thought the people that we were looking at could see us as well and she had me believing that for awhile. I remember how I would "show off" in front of the TV and she would send for someone to come and get me, because she thought others were seeing me misbehave. Once she and I went on a picnic together. I was probably 7 or 8 years old. I remember pushing her up on the side of a mountain where she lived. There was a little flat piece of land above her house and this is where we would have our picnic. I got her up there one time, but I could not get her down. She was having a hard time getting down and afraid of falling. I had to go get an uncle to get her down. That was our last picnic together.
