Martha Hewitt 20, together with her husband James Henry Greathead 24, Land surveyor and Leader of the Party, and their son, were members of Greathead's Party of 20 Settlers on the Settler Ship Kennersley Castle.

Party originated from Worcestershire.

Departed Bristol, 10 January 1820. Arrived Table Bay, Cape Town - 29 March 1820. Final Port - Algoa Bay, Port Elizabeth 29 April 1820.

a. James GREATHEAD, aged 24, head of Greathead's party from Worcestershire, with his wife Martha née HEWITT aged 20 with their son James Henry GREATHEAD, aged 1 month, came out on the Kennersley Castle, arriving in Table Bay, March 1820. James GREATHEAD was a surveyor by profession. He built a house in Bathurst where he resided till his death in 1830. His widow, some years after his death married William SMITH, surveyor and widower, with several children. At the age of 14 James Henry GREATHEAD was sent by his step-father to earn his own living. He was taken into employment by William WRIGHT who afterwards became his father-in-law.
