Martha Ann Orvis

Martha Ann Orvis was born on 8 March 1826, the daughter of Martha Polly and Robert Orvis. In 1841 she was aged 15 and working as a shop assistant in Mistley. She married Francis Jowers on 6 October 1848 in Tendring, Essex. They had seven children in 16 years. After she was widowed she was living with her son Horace, a print compositor, and his wife Edith in 1891. Horace's wife Edith was born in Chelmsford, Essex. Martha Ann Jowers died in April 1892 in West Ham, Essex, at the age of 66.She was buried on 25 June 1892 in the borough of Newnham, London.

At the time of the 1861 England Census Martha was living with her husband Francis and her children Alice, Edwin, Elizabeth, Francis and Martha at All Saints, West Ham, Essex, England and her age was stated as being 33 years old.

At the time of the 1881 England Census Martha was living with her husband Francis and her son Horace at West Ham, Essex, England and her age was stated as being 55 years old.

At the time of the 1891 England Census Martha was living with her son Horace and her daughter-in-law Edith at West Ham, Essex, England and her age is stated as being 64 years old
