Martha Chrystal Welch

WILTON – M. Chrystal Welch, 93, of Magrath Road, Wilton, died Sunday, August 29, 2010 at her home.

She was born in Temple, Nov. 3, 1915 a daughter of William B. and Martha (Packard) Frost. She received her education in Wilton schools and graduated from Wilton Academy. She later attended Farmington Normal School. On Feb. 27, 1937, she married Alton Welch. He died June 7, 2009.

Mrs. Welch worked at GH Bass and Co. in Wilton for twenty-seven years, retiring in 1977. She was a member of Franklin Grange, the Wiltona Club, Wilton Historical Society, and the First Congregational Church of Wilton. She was family oriented, enjoyed canning, gardening, crafts, camping, fishing, and snowmobiling. She and her late husband were also very active in the Wilton Senior Citizens where they were instrumental in organizing many bus tours around the country.

She is survived by her sons, Herschel Welch and his wife Lauristine of North Jay and Hartley Welch and his wife Tena of Raymond; sister-in-laws, Thelma Frost of Wilton and Blandine Frost of Norridgewock; 9 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; 7 great great grandchildren; At the time of her death she was also survived by a sister, Roaine Hatch of Chesterville, who died two days after Chrystal on August 31; She was predeceased by her husband; a son Herman; and two brothers, Cecil and Royce Frost.

Graveside funeral services will be held on Friday, Sept. 10 at 11 a.m. at Lakeview Cemetery in Wilton.
