Martha Calhoun (8.James3, 2.James2, 1.James1) b. Abbeville, SC, m. (1) bef 1772, James Willson, d. 17 Jan 1781, Battle of Cowpens, buried: Abbeville Dist., SC, m. (2) 1781, William Anderson. Martha died 31 Jan 1840, Anderson District, SC. She was a first cousin to John C. Calhoun. Her grandparents were James and Catherine Calhoun. It is only speculation which of the 3 sons of James and Catherine were Martha's father. This information was related to my cousin, Dr. Ashton W. McWhorter from my great-great-aunt, Eliza W. McWhorter in a letter dated 25 Nov 1913. In a letter written 6 Aug 1866, Wm. D. McWhorter, MD states that Mrs. John C. Calhoun died last Wednesday week, at the age of 77.
