Tienie (52) was shot dead in his home in Kempton Park, on 11th June 2002, when four armed males invaded his property.
In February 2004, Tienie's wife, Christa, told media that the police detective who was working on the case, Inspector Cecile Jurgens, had shared information with her husband, Charles Jurgens, a private investigator, who assisted her with the arrest of the four perpetrators. Christa was upset because Inspector Jurgens was herself being investigated for corruption.
Excerpt from the article. "A senior police officer said inspector Jurgens was an extremely capable officer and that she solved many violent cases. "I don't know how she can be charged, considering her success. Few investigators can equal her," the officer said."
"Inspector Dennis Adriao for police said Cecile Jurgens also faced corruption charges that are being investigated by a provincial task team. He said there were good co-operation between police and private investigators, but specific procedures had to be followed to prevent fraud and corruption."
