He was residing in Burwalde in 1809 per the 1809 Chortitza Colony Vaccination Lists. In the 1814 and Oct 1816 Censuses he is listed at Kronsthal #2 (B. H. Unruh, p. 284). The Lithuanian Mennonite Church records record that Martin Siemens was born in December, so the date of birth we have is probably the O.S. calendar equivalent as used in Russia. Martin Siemens is listed in File #51 of Fond 6, Inventory 5 in the State Archives of the Odessa Region. The file, dated 02.07.1846-16.08.1848, describes the transfer of his property in (Insel?) Chortitza to his son-in-law Abraham Neufeld of Schoenwiese because his son Franz has resettled in the colony of Schoenthal in Mariupol District. The file also gives the 1835 census extract for the Martin Siemens family. Birth Source: Die niederlandisch-niederdeutschen Hintergrunde der mennonitischen Ostwanderungen im 16., 18. und 19.
