"Martin Switzer married Mary Maurice in 22 Feb 1803, Queens County Ireland, and came to America in 1804, landing at the Province of Maine where he lived four years. He then moved to the City of New York where he lived for a term of years. The English government offering one hundred ___ to a permanant settler for thirty dollars to cover surveying. Martin, on the ninth of January 1820, started with part of his family to make a new home in the woods near Streetsville, where they built a log cabin, the rest of the family coming later. The children were JonhWesley, James Maurice, Martin Julian Carter, Joseph, Annabelle, Salina and Maria. Of these only one was born in Ireland (Annabelle). The rest were American Born."
: "John Beatty came with his two brothers from Ireland to New York city to escape the ill will existing in the old country against the society formed by John Wesley. Beatty wished to settle under the British flag and joined with other Irish immigrants in negotiating for land in Upper Canada.
: On May 18, 1819, he led a caravan of 27 wagons from New York City toUpper Canada and they settled in Toronto Township." Additionally there is an interesting anecdote in this file describing how John Beatty had the weary travelers stop to pray on their knees by a river during the course of their journey.
