Marty Ingels (born Martin Ingerman) was an actor, comedian and theatrical agent who is best known as the voice of many cartoon characters and commercials.
He was born on March 9, 1936 in Brooklyn, New York to Jacob and Minnie (née Crown) Ingerman. Ingles had an older brother named Arthur. He had a rough childhood and was often picked on. After he finished school, he went into the army. Later, he appeared in a couple of game shows and won. He moved to California to pursue acting. He lived with another guy and actually ended up dating and eventually marrying his roommate's girlfriend.
Ingels' acting career dates back to the early '60s and programs such as The Dick Van Dyke Show, on which he had a recurring role as an Army buddy of Rob Petrie. He first saw success when he starred with John Astin in "I'm Dickens, He's Fenster" (1962). Soon after the show went off the air, he and his wife divorced.
His voice-overs and commercials include those for Paul Masson wines, with his uniquely raspy voice. He played AutoCat in the Autocat and Motormouse cartoons featured first on The Cattanooga Cats and then in a series of their own, and was Beegle Beagle in The Great Grape Ape Show.
He has been married since 1977 to the actress and singer Shirley Jones.
