About Mary Albee

Not the wife of Dea. William White

Mary Thayer was born on 19 January 1689 in Mendon, Worcester County, Massachusetts.1 She was the daughter of Capt. Thomas Thayer and Mary Poole

On 3 January 1708 in Mendon, Worcester County, Massachusetts, Mary married James Albee, son of James Albee and Hannah Cook.2,3,4 They were married at Mendon on 3 Jan 1708.[1].

Note: Many online James Albee on 3 Jan 1708 at Mendon, Massachusetts,[1] exactly one year after his marriage. This death date cannot be correct, as there is evidence that he had children until at least May 1714. Also, the James Albee who died at Mendon in 1702 cannot be this James, as James was married in 1707.[2]. For this reason, James's death date is shown as "after Sept 1713," nine months before the birth of daughter Martha in May 1714.

Thayer (1874) has her marrying William White in 1718.1.

Mary Thayer and James Albe were married on 3 January 1707 at Mendon, Massachusetts.[2][4] They had at least the following children:

  • Mary (Albee) Wood, b. 12 April 1710[5]; m. Samuel Wood
  • James Albee, b. 21 Feb 1711[6]
  • Martha (Albee) Sheffield, b. 16 May 1714; m. Isaac Sheffield
  • Margaret (Albee) Hayward, m. John Hayward
  • Elizabeth Albee

The existence of Mary's four daughters is contained in her mother's Will.[7] Mary Albee's mother, Mary Thayer, made her Will on 12 Aug 1740. She made a codicil to her Will on 14 Oct 1743. In her original Will, she made a bequest to her daughter, Mary Albee. In the Codicil, she stated that Mary Albee was deceased, so she gave Mary's share of the estate to Mary's daughters: Mary Wood, Martha Sheffield, Elizabeth Albee, Margaret Albee.

Whose children?

  1. Samuel Albee4
  2. Elizabeth Albee4
  3. Seth Albee+2,4 (1718 - 1775)
  4. Thomas Albee+4,2 (a 1719 - )

The following children were included with the original profile but are not shown in the Mendon VRs, as children of James and Mary, and I have found no other evidence that they were the children of James and Mary. For this reason, they have been removed:

  1. Timothy Albee
  2. Thomas Albee[8][9]
  3. Seth Albee[9]

it has been shown that, although James and Mary had a daughter Mary, she is not the Mary Allebee who married Jesse Irish. For this reason, Mary (Albee) Irish needs to be disconnected form James and Mary as parents. (Done)
The History of Milford by Adin Ballou includes Seth, Timothy and Thomas, although notes that there is no vital record. I think there's value in keeping the children connected as "uncertain." https://archive.org/stream/historyoftownofm02ball#page/524/mode/2up
