Mary Ann Sammons

Mary Ann (Weathers) Sammons, d/o Benjamin Weathers & Temperance (Johnson) Weathers, was born in Sussex Co., VA., one of eight siblings - Frances, Sarah, Jesse, William, Elizabeth, Mary Ann, Fielding & Martha. Mary Ann was married to Gilliam Sammons in Sussex Co., VA on 7 Sept. 1830. They had 2 sons. The family moved to Logan Co., KY about 1834 with the Weathers family. Gilliam disappeared and left his wife & young sons to fend for themselves after the move to Logan, KY. Mary Ann filed for a divorce in Logan Co. in 1839 for abandonment. The court subpoenaed Gilliam Sammons but apparently did not find him as he had left the state. Her divorce was granted in 1839, but she never remarried. Gilliam was never seen or heard from again. Mary Ann lived in Logan, KY until sometime before 1900 when she came to Benton Co., AR to live with her son Benjamin and family.
