Mary Adam Henderson was born in Scotland. When she was a small child (age 2), her parents, David and Margaret packed up their family of six children and joined the Easton and extended Adam family to sail from Glasgow, Scotland to Liverpool, England to America, the land of promise.
The ship crossed the Atlantic, to the south of the Florida Peninsula into the Gulf of Mexico. From there, the family took a boat up the Mississippi, settling in St. Louis, Missouri.
They planned to stay about a year, long enough to save up for provisions, and a wagon and oxen team for the trip west. Mary's father, David, died shortly after from heat stroke (or cholera) while working in the coal mines near St. Louis and was buried in what is now called Dogtown.
After her father's death, Mary's mother, Margaret, became the plural wife, for a time, of James Easton (the husband of Margaret's sister). They made the trip west to Salt Lake, then to Cedar City and finally settled in San Bernardino, Ca.
Mary married, first, William R. Levic(k) in San Bernardino, Ca. They were divorced June 15, 1874. She then married Thomas H. Ashcroft.
