According to DAR records, Valentine Bell was born around 1742. In his daughter's, Fielder, Census entry in 1870, she indicates her parents were foreign born. He served in the South Carolina Militia under Captain Lacey. He was living in Chester County in 1790. In his will, he was married to Mary and had the following children: John, Rachel, William, Elizabeth Brown, Sarah Powel, Mary Wilson, Nancy Boyd, Zephania,Valentine, James and Fielder Atkinson. The will was signed April 6, 1799 and probated April 1780.

In trees found on Ancestry.com and Family Search, Magruder was listed as his wife's last name but no source could be found.
