Mary Bennion

Paul B. Cannon (b. 1901) wrote that he remembered Grandma Bennion saying that she did not want to be taken to the cemetery in an automobile. This was a time when they started using automobiles instead of horses for the funeral procession.

He also wrote that: "Grandma Bennion lived with us for a short time after mother and father married until she died, about 1913. She brought Effie Cooper with her and they both were as family members. Effie’s mother died at the time or shortly after Effie was born. Her mother was grandma’s sister. Grandma Bennion had an upstairs bedroom with a fireplace. Her room was next to the bathroom. A fire was kept going in her room during most of the winters. She was a very quiet and peaceful person as was mother. This is reflected in her picture. Grandma Bennion helped with the care of the younger children. I understand both Grandma Bennion and Effie took care of Milton as I came along only 14 months after he was born. Grandma Bennion liked having her hair brushed at night before she went to bed. I remember doing it sometimes."
