Notes

• John THOMPSON's will was probated in 1627 at Canterbury, England. The son, Thomas, mentioned in the will was probably by a former marriage. Children of John and Alice THOMPSON were: Mary THOMPSON m. Rev. Richard BLINMAN of Gloucester, Mass; Dorothy; Bridget THOMPSON, born 11 Sept. 1622, m. 1640 George DENISON; Dorothy THOMPSON m. Thomas PARK of Wethersfield, Conn.; Nathaniel; and Martha. Wildley, Anna Chesebrough, GENEALOGY of the DESCENDANTS of WILLIAM CHESEBROUGH (1903), pp.518-519."
• death date seen as November 27, 1651 (32) Roxbury, Suffolk, Massachusetts. However she was living in New London with her husband, and he took a position in Newfoundland & died in Bristol England. Removing date.

DeCoursey: "1650 - Rev. Richard BLINNMAN and the so called "Welsh party" from Gloucester, Mass., came to New London, Conn., and were granted house lots on Cape Ann Lane (Jefferson St.). BLINMAN was named pastor of the Church at New London and granted a salary of 60 pounds per year. He married Mary THOMPSON, born 14 November 1619, daughter of John and Alice (FREEMAN) THOMPSON."

Errors to Avoid ===:Death Date: Said to have died 27 November 1651 in Roxbury. There is no evidence for this and it does not appear in the Vital Records- date is unsupported. She was also having children through 1666.

:Disputed husband: She is often said to the Mary who married the Rev. Richard Blinman. This is a very complicated problem addressed by David L. Greene F.A.S.G in 1983. His conclusion ultimately was to accept that Mary Tompson had married Joseph Wise in 1641 as published in 1980 by Robert Chalres Anderson, and that the wife of Richard Blinman remained uncertain. <ref name="TAG 1980 Wise" /> <ref name="TG Blinman">The Genealogist vol. 4 no. 2 (Fall 1983):173-186. Mary, Wife of the Rev. Richard Blinman of Marshfield, Gloucester, and New London: An Unsolved Problem, by David L. Greene F.A.S.G. </ref> Greene tentatively identifies the wife of Richard Blinman as a daughter of Robert Parke, and so a step-sister of Mary Tompson.
