Mary Bunce

Stated by Thompson (Thompson's Hist. L.I., vol. ii, p. 454; Records of Smithtown, p. 476) and by Samuel Arden Smith (manuscript of Samuel A. Smith; N.Y. Gen. & Biog. Rec., vol. xlii, p.130) to have married (1) Obadiah Smith. The latter authority states that she married a second time, and Thompson that she married (2) Zebulon Bunce and had issue by him. If this marriage took place and was the one reported by the Rev. Joshua Hartt as on 1 Jan 1775, then the children, if correctly given as hers, must have been by the first marriage. No further confirmation of any of these statements has ever been found. Note: The Fredrick Kinsman Smith book does not list any children by the second marriage, though it did reference Thompson that the second marriage had issue. The will of Daniel Smith, dated 19 Nov 1719, names his daughter Mary, under twenty-one and unmarried.
