About Mary Case

Changed birth place. Consider the following:

  • If her father was indeed named Emanuel, it appears he arrived in Watertown, MA c.1640 – presumably with his family, when she was about age 8 to 10 years of age.

A Genealogical Register of the First Settlers of New-England; Containing an Alphabetical List…With Many Other of the Early Inhabitants of New-England and Long-Island, N.Y., from 1630 to the year 1675: to which are added Various Genealogical are Biographical Notes, Collected from ancient Records, Manuscripts, and Printed Works. Carter, Andrews & Company. Available at: Archive.org.
  • About Rhode Island's First Settlers:
    • "The land was first owned by the Narragansett Indians, which led to the name of the town of Narragansett, Rhode Island. European settlement began around 1622 with a trading post at Sowams, now the town of Warren, Rhode Island." In other words, the region had European settlers, but there was not named place of Newport yet.
    • "Roger Williams was a Puritan theologian and linguist who founded Providence Plantations in 1636 on land given to him by Narragansett sachem Canonicus."

This Mary was not Mary Starky.

  • A different William Case married Mary Starky on 28 Jan 1685 in Charlestown, MA.
  • Quote: "This land was "butted," in part, by that of William Case. In Chariest-own, Mass., records, we find that William Case married Mary Starkey. This could not have been John Starkey's daughter Mary, because she was not baptized until 1671."
