WAKEFIELD, Mich. — Marie Colberg, 92, of Wakefield, formerly a longtime resident of Ramsay, passed away Thursday, Aug. 14, 2014.

She was born on July 28, 1922, in Margie, Minn., the seventh of 10 children to the late Clarence and Loretta (Hall) Hamilton. Marie attended Roosevelt School in Marenisco.

During World War II, she moved to Ann Arbor and found employment as a “Rosie the Riveter.”

On June 15, 1946, Marie married Erick Makela, and they were blessed with three sons. Erick passed away Feb. 28, 1981.

On April 2, 1983, she married Ronald G. Colberg. They enjoyed 13 years of marriage before his death on Feb. 17, 1996.

Marie was a member of All Saints Lutheran Church in Wakefield. Her hobbies were bingo, playing the lottery, home cooking, dancing and listening to country music.

To Gram Marie, the sun rose and set in her grandson and great-grandchildren.

She will truly be missed by her loving family.

Marie is survived by a son, Eric (Diane) Makela, Wakefield; a grandson, Brandon (Kathy) Makela, Wakefield; two great-grandchildren, Elizabeth and Hayden Makela; a special nephew, Sidney Riley, Minneapolis; and two stepsons and four stepdaughters.

Besides her parents and two husbands, she was preceded in death by two sons, Melvin, on March 29, 1967, and James, on March 4, 1986; a stepson, Christopher Colberg, on Jan. 30, 1986; five brothers, Clarence, in infancy, William, Alfred “Dutch,” Benjamin and Glen Hamilton; four sisters, Margaret, in infancy, Myrtle Riley, Lillian Conley and Rosemary Conley.

A memorial service will be held Tuesday, Aug. 19, at 11 a.m., preceded by visitation at 10 a.m., at All Saints Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Bill Jacobson.

Interment will follow in Lakeside Cemetery, Wakefield.

Lunch will be served in the church fellowship hall.

The family would like to thank everyone at the Gogebic Medical Care Facility for their excellent care and compassion for Marie’s last two-and-a-half years.
