About Mary Compton
The Maddox Family of Maryland by Mrs. Fredonia Maddox Webster 929.273 M264wf Salt Lake City Family History Library Notes Notley Maddox, Jr, born 1698, died 1758 . He moved to Pckawaxon Parish in Charles County aqnd married Mary Warren, daughter of John and Judith Warren of Hatton's Point, Charles County, and granddaughter of Margaret Townley. Notley Jr was the son of Notley and Margaret (Goldsmith) Maddox.
Fredonia Maddox Webster's book in 1954 of MD families is WRONG in the respect that the Samuel Line's Notley Maddox b 1731 did NOT migrate to Kentucky with son Hezekiah and several others. The notley that did was born in 1738 and was a descendant of Cornelius Maddox. This Notley died in 1801 all right.,. He was mixed up with another. The 1738 Notley who died in 1801 married Violetta BOSWELL, who was his beloved wife in his will, proven in Kentucky. The earlier Notley 1731 never went to Kentucky; he died in Charles Co MD. I Know the Notley name is confusing in great extent because Gov Thomas Notley was a well known name, and yes, a traveling companion of Samuel, who migrated here in 1665. There is also documentation on Ancestry by Diana Bara, who offered sufficient proof I had to retract the Kentucky Line from Samuel's lineage whle my website was still on line some 20 years ago.
Consult Family Search ... the correct Notley Maddox b 1738 is FS ID LJKQ-TKQ. He is the son of Notley Maddocke b 1714 d 1786 FS ID LJVR-RPM and Elizabeth Martin b 1710 fs ID KPQ5-595 Notley Maddocke b 1714 is son of James Maddocke b 1686 of Charles Co. and Mary Wheeler. THAT James is son of Cornelius Maddocke b 1661 fs ID MP5Q-1P3. The Notley b 1738 is father of (H)exekiah Maddox b 1777 and check the documents in FamilySearch including his will published there. When Notley 1738 left Maryland, he sold his Charles County holdings to his brother before he left for KY, and Diana Bara has the documents.
I regret to say I helped advanced Fredonias mistake for in my well read Maddox Family Website circa 2000, I published her account which was doubted at the time and the mistake was also copied into the book "Snow Hill Remembered" by Richard Stevens who was paid to write the genealogy of the Harris Family of MD KY and OH. Fredonia was right about most of her MD reporting, but not this particular one. They were my original sources until Diana did the digging; shes of the Samuel line, not me.
