About Mary DeWitt

Her date of birth is based on her tombstone inscription and church records of her death. Mary was christened 27 Nov 1796 and died 12 Mar 1852. A reading of the tombstone in 1995 indicated the date of death was 3/12/1852 not 5/12/1853.

Mary is buried in a plot in the Marbletown DRC Cemetery. Buried in the same plot are her husband, Charles DEWITT, another Charles DEWITT and his wife, Sarah Malcolm DELAMETER. It is possible that Charles, h/o Sarah is the f/o Charles, h/o Mary. However there is no proof and if the elder Charles was married only once then it is highly unlikely because according to the DRC records, Sarah is only 11 years older than the younger Charles. Also buried in the plot are: another Charles (bn 11/11/1834) who is probably a s/o Charles and Mary; Blandina, bn in 1839, who may be a d/o Charles and Mary although her date of birth raises some doubt as to her parentage because Mary would have been 43-45 years old at the time of Blandina's birth. Also buried in the plot are; Harriet, bn 1821, and John M., bn 1825, both of whom are most likely children of Charles and Mary. Buried nearby is Andrew, a known s/o Charles and Mary. However the only children of Mary listed in the genealogy are those for whom church or other records have been found proving the relationship.

Buried with Charles and Mary in the Marbletown DRC Cemetery are four other persons. They are: Charles, born 11/11/1834, died 6/18/1847; Blandina, born 1839, died 4/29/1851; Harriet, born 1/2/1821, died 11/27/1838; and John M, born 3/12/1825, died 5/12/1839. In all probability Harriet and John were children of Charles and Mary though no records of their births or baptisms have been found. Charles and Blandina were more than likely children of Andrew but again no records have been found. No real effort has been made to locate records pertaining to these people since all of them were too young to have lineal descendants.
