Jeanette S. A. Rice (Sergeant) relayed an anecdote involving Mary Dwight (Woolsey), Mrs. Timothy Dwight, IV, in her 1883 memoir, "Tales That Have the Rime of Age":
"When my father [Erastus Sergeant, Jr.] went to Norwalk to bring your mother [Mary Ann Newbury (Sergeant)] home, they came by way of New Haven in order to visit President Dwight, who was a cousin of my father’s. The visit made a great impression on your mother. It seems Mrs. Dwight rose early, leaving her husband asleep, and when he came to the breakfast table he addressed her with 'Good morning Madame Dwight,' in a precise dignified manner your mother always remembered."
