Mary Elizabeth Lloyd Wion

Mary Elizabeth Lloyd, daughter of Jesse and Elizabeth Lloyd was born in Muskingum Co., OH on Dec. 2, 1850 and died in Decatur Co. IA Sept. 5, 1929 at the age of 78 yrs. 9 mos. & 1 day. She was the oldest of a family of 8 children, all of whom survive her. They are George and John Lloyd of Alademy, SD; Dr. J.C. Lloyd of Sioux City, IA., Mrs. Nancy Bedell and Mrs Anna Noble of Grand River, IA and W.H Lloyd of Weldon, IA. She also leaves several grandchildren and great grandchildren and a host of friends. On July 14, 1867 she was united in marriage to Henry Wion. To this union were born 7 children, 3 boys and 4 girls. George J. Wion of Kingsburg, Colo., Jesse L. Wion of Mt. Ayr, IA, Roaslie McLaughlin of Tulsa, OK, Clara C. Cash of Decatur, IA., Luella Andrew of Grand River, IA., and John F. Wion of Sterling, Colo. One daughter Nancy E. died in infancy. Aunt Lizzie as she was known by everyone was of a kind and loving disposition, a friend to everyone and a good neighbor. Mrs. Wion was one of the pioneers who changed the county from a wilderness into what it is. She spent most of her life on a farm, being a great lover of outdoor life. When 4 yrs. of age she moved to Iowa and with the exception of 4 yrs. spent the rest of her life in Decatur County. After the death of her husband she moved to Decatur where she resided until she was called home. Many years ago she professed her faith in Christ and united with the Methodist Protestant church. Funeral services were held at the Decatur ME church, Sunday, Sept. 8 at 3 pm, conducted by Mrs. Ida I. Roberts. Interrment took place in the Decatur Cemetery.
