Death: FARTHING, Mary Massena Observer, New York - Thursday, 29 July 1948 Submitted by Pat Dominie Mrs. Farthing Dies at Cornwall In Her 87th Year Aultsville - Mrs. Mary Farthing, who had made her home with her late stepson, Stanley McCracken, until two months ago, passed away at Cornwall on Sunday, July 18, in her 87th year. She was born in Aultsville, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Adam Empey, and was united in marriage to John McCracken and later married William Farthing, of Montreal. Mrs. Farthing was the last member of a pioneer family. She was always willing to help those in sickness or trouble, and was held in high esteem by all who knew her. She was a staunch Presbyterian. She was "Aunt Mary" to young and old. She had been in failing health for some time. Her only survivors are two nieces, Mrs. Fred Eamon, of Farran's Point, and Mrs. R. B. Clark, in Connecticut, USA, and five grand nieces, Mrs. Sam Laurence, Massena, N. Y., Mrs. George Lawrence, Lisbon, N. Y.; Mrs. Harold Cole, Massena; Mrs. Ernest Canough, Aultsville; Mrs. Colin McArthur, Morrisburg. All were present at the funeral. The service was held at the Meldrum Funeral Home, Cornwall, Rev. G. S. Lloyd officiating. The remains were brought to Aultsville and placed in the family plot in the United Cemetery. Mrs. Farthing always lived in Aultsville until in later years she married Mr. Farthing and moved to Montreal. After his death a few years ago she returned to Aultsville to spend her last years. Her death is regretted by many friends.
