1695: Gideon Gibson Sr. is born in Boston as a free man of color. He later marries a white woman, and they have children. His profession is carpenter. Their son, Gideon Gibson Jr. is born around 1721.

1730s: Gideon Gibson and his family, along with other settlers, leave Boston and travel south to settle in parts of the frontier. They eventually settle in the area that would become North Carolina.[2]

Mary Anne Gibson, was born in Bledsoe - Parsons - Sizemore Church, Bledsoe, NC , Wilmington, New Hanover County, NC, United States. Her parents were NOT William Brown, Gent., of Albemarle & Chowan and Mary Austin (Bnu) Vernon. Florence Historical Society has Thomas Brown as the parent.

Mary married Trader Gideon Gibson of the Congaree River on October 22, 1728. Together they had the following children: Gideon Gipson; Jordan Gibson; John Gibson IV; Mary Holland Riddle Gibson; Luke Gibson; Daniel Gibson; Samuel Gibson; Sarah Jane Gibson; Rev. Tobias Gibson; Levi Gibson; Agnes Gibson; William Gibson.

She died on October 13, 1754 in Parsons Family Plot, per the Gibson Family Association, Edgecombe County, North Carolina, Colonial America.


Disputed that her mother was Braswell due to the court record showing that Gideon Gibson, II was FPOC and that came down from the mother per Colonial law; Mary (Browne) is the Pee Dee Craven Co Family denoted mother of Gideon Gibson, Jr.. 1 Marriage* 22 October 1728 Gideon Gibson Sr. married Mary Anne Brown, daughter of William Brown and Martha Braswell, on 22 October 1728 in NC.
