Mary Ives was born on 17 March 1675/76 at New Haven, New Haven County, Connecticut Colony the daughter of Capt. Joseph & Mary (Yale) Ives and grand-daughter of William and Hannah Dickerman. She married John Gilbert b. 3 Oct 1668, d. Dec 1741, son of John Gilbert and Sarah Gregson, on 21 January 1690-2. Mary Ives died on 14 April 1712 at New Haven, New Haven County, Connecticut Colony, at age 36, giving birth to her sixth child, Miriam. She was buried at City Burial Ground ("Grove Street Cemetery"), New Haven, New Haven County, Connecticut Colony.[1]

Notes

Regarding the confusion about Mary Ives having a second name, Highby; this is evidently an error from inadequate research and analysis of dates and locations etc. There is another Mary Ives who married Higbee and had children 31 years later, after the other Mary Ives had died, from 1743 to 1754, Middletown County, Cconnecticut and in Stockbridge, Berkshire County in Western Massachusetts

Unlike Mary Ives Gilbert who died in 1712, Mary Ives Higbee died 1757 in Sheffield, Conn. She married Daniel Higby, son of Edward Higby and Rebecca Wheeler.
