Mary is the only known child of Reuben and Ellen born before 1648. If she was the child Ellen was carrying when Reuben "ran away," she was probably born during the winter of 1642. This is supported by her marrying on the first day of 1661 when she theoretically was 18.

FAMILY OF JOHN GLOVER. The following materials were obtained from the Records of Essex County and of Salem and Marblehead:
FIRST GENERATION.
John Glover married Mary Guppy of Salem, Jan. 2nd, 1660, died May 1695. Will proved May 13th, 1695.
SECOND GENERATION.
Children of John and Mary were:

The spellings of the name have appeared as Guppie, Guppy, Guppey and Emppy. Reuben Guppy was in Salem on Feb. 22, 1648-49. He was fined for "defaming Danyell Ray (Rea)." On 28 Nov 1676, Reuben Guppy was fined for selling ale without a license. It is ordered that the two oldest children of Rueben Guppy are to be placed out according to order: vidz; the girls, daughter to (Phil Verin) John Porter & the son to (Serg. Porter) Robert Lemmon Lemmon-798. The boy until the age of 21 & the maid until the age of 18. In the records of the ancient town of Salem, New England, it is written that "John Glover married to Mary Guppey, by Major Hathorn the 2d January, 1660." This appears to be the earliest menton of the progenitor of a notable New England family whose members were descendants of the English ancestors.
