About Mary Gorham

Biography

Mary was born in Hingham 14 Mar 1652. She was the daughter of John and Mary (Jacob) Otis.[1][2]

Mary Otis married Colonel John Gorham of Barnstable,[3] February 24 1674.[4][2]

Mary died 1 Apr 1733 in Barnstable. There is a memorial for Mary in Cobb's Hill Cemetery, Barnstable.[5]

In the name of God Amen I Mary Gorham of Barnstable in the County of Barnstable widow Relict of John Gorham Esqr Late of Barnstable deceased being advanced In years but of perfect mind and memory Thanks be given unto God calling unto mind the mortality of my body and knowing yt it is appointed for all men once to die Do make and ordain this my Last will and testament that is to say Principally and first of all I give and recommend my soul into the hands of God that gave it & my body I recommend to the earth to he buried in Christian Burial at ye discretion of my Executors nothing doubling but at the General Resurrection I shall receive the same again by the mighty power of God. And as touching my worldly Estate wherewith it hath pleased God to bless me In this life I give demise & dispose of the same in the following mannner Vizt.

Imprimis: I give and bequeath unto my three Sons Viz. Stephen. John & Job each twenty shillings money or paper hills out of my Estate.

Item, I give and bequeath unto my Son Shubael the sum of six pounds money or Passable bills of Credit out of my Estate.

Item, I give and bequeath unto my grandson John Gorham son of my son Shubael Gorham and to his heirs & assigns for ever my eight shares in a Lott of land in Barnstahle aforesd The Remainder of sd Lott being owned by the heirs of James Gorharn deceased.

Item, I give and bequeath all the remainder of my Estate both real & personal whatsoever & wheresoever The same may be found to my four Daughters Vizt Temperance Clap, Mary Hinckley, Thankful Fuller and Mercy Bourne equally to be divided among them so that each may have one quarter part thereof and I do hereby appoint my sd Son Shubael Gorham and my Son in law Silvanus Bourne Executors to this my Last will & testament and I do hereby utterly revoke and disannull all former wills or testaments by me made heretofore either by word or writing Ratifying & Confirming this and no other to be my Last will and Testament.

In witness whereof I have hereunto sett my hand & seal this seventh day of November Anno Domini One Thousand seven hundred and twenty seven.
