Obituary for Elias Griffin 25 Dec 1891

Last Sunday evening at 7 o'clock occurred the death of Elias Griffin in Kenney, aged 73 years. He was born in Pickaway County, Ohio in 1818. February 26, 1839, he was united in marriage with Mary STAGNER. From this union were born 11 children, five sons and six daughters, nine of whom are now living and are located in Illinois, Iowa, Kansas and Missouri. Two of his sons enlisted in the civil war, one of whom (John Carlisle) was killed. Mr. Griffin with his family emigrated to Illinois landing at Clinton Dec. 25, 1852. He has resided in this county since then, with the exception of two years. He taught school in Ohio for 15 years; was justice of the peace here for 30 years and never had a decision reversed by the circuit court. He was supposted to have la grippe, being bedfast only a few days. He was buried Tuesday at the New Providence Baptist Burying Ground. Edler Mavity of the Christian Church of Kenney officating. His wife who survives him is dangerously ill.
