Mary was born in about 1732, the daughter of John Reade and Mary Mallory. At the time of her father's death in 1739, Mary's mother had already died and her father had remarried to Elizabeth. She chose her uncle Francis Mallory to be her guardian. Her step mother remarried to Evan Owen. In 1745, Francis Mallory filed a chancery suit on behalf of Mary against her step-mother and second husband. The suit was turned over to Richard Randolph to arbitrate. In 1753, following the death of her guardian, Mary chose Col. John Bolling to take over as her guardian.[1]
