Mary Ann Irvine, 1853-1893; died at age 39 years.
May 10, 1853, marked the second anniversary of the Irvines' arrival at Fort Victoria, and also the birth of their first daughter, who they named Mary Ann. These names are taken from both the Irvines'parents: John's mother, Mary Craigie; and Jessie's mother, Ann Swanny. A fitting name, indeed. Mary Ann later became Mrs. David Laing and had four daughters: Jessie Sisser Laing; Margaret Isabel ;Irene Alice Kiddy and Elizabeth Lizzy Laing, who died at age six years and is buried in the Irvine/Laing buriel plot in Ross Bay Cemetery. Jessie Sisser Laing, lived until April 16, 1942 and is buried in the family plot in Ross Bay Cemetery.
